Austria and Algeria booked their places in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 after an entertaining 3-3 draw in their final Group J match at Kansas City Stadium. Sasa Kalajdzic scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to secure Austria second place in the group, marking the nation’s first knockout qualification since 1982.
Algeria also progressed as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams, reaching the knockout stage for only the second time after 2014. Austria will face Spain in the Round of 32, while Algeria are set to take on Switzerland following a spirited performance.
