FIDE World Cup 2026: Arjun Erigaisi Holds Wei Yi in Quarterfinal Clash
Indian Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, and Pentala Harikrishna drew their respective games to force tiebreaks in the fourth round of the FIDE World Cup 2025 on Wednesday.
Erigaisi, playing white, split points with Hungary’s Peter Leko after 36 moves in a Nimzo-Indian setup, while Praggnanandhaa held Daniil Dubov in 30 moves. Harikrishna, though under pressure against Sweden’s Nils Grandelius, managed a draw in a bishop-pawn endgame. GM Jose Eduardo Martinez advanced to the Round of 16, while two-time champion Levon Aronian also progressed. Young Indian Pranav V. exited after losing to Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Yakubboev.
