Sir David Beckham Knighted for Services to Sport and Charity

Former England captain David Beckham was knighted at Windsor Castle on Tuesday for his services to sport and charity.

The 49-year-old football icon, who captained England from 2000 to 2006 and earned 115 caps, said he was “immensely proud” and “honoured” to be recognised. Beckham, who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG, helped London secure the 2012 Olympics and has worked with UNICEF since 2005. Beyond football, he co-owns Inter Miami and Salford City.

“People know how patriotic I am,” Beckham said, calling the monarchy “an important part of my family’s life.”
