Commonwealth Games 2026: Jhandu Kumar Wins Para Powerlifting Bronze For India In Glasgow

India’s Jhandu Kumar won a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, strengthening India’s medal tally.

Jhandu finished third with 130.9 points, narrowly missing silver by just 0.1 points behind England’s Matthew Harding (131.0), while Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris claimed gold with 132.8. The Bihar-born para athlete, who overcame polio and financial hardships, delivered a consistent performance under pressure.

In the men’s lightweight event, Ashok Malik finished fourth despite a 200kg lift, while Parmjeet Kumar placed seventh, missing out on podium finishes for India.
