Canada Held 1-1 by Ireland Ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026 Campaign
Canada men’s national soccer team were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Republic of Ireland national football team in their final warm-up match before the FIFA World Cup.
Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances in Montreal, Canada managed only an own goal from Ireland in the first half. Ireland equalised after Chiedozie Ogbene converted a rebound from a saved penalty just after the hour mark. Coach Jesse Marsch praised his team’s energy but admitted improvements are needed before the tournament begins. Co-hosts Canada open their World Cup campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 12.
Star defender Alphonso Davies missed the match with a hamstring injury and remains doubtful for the opener.
