Boxing Day Test No-Ball Controversy: Umpire Decision on Mitchell Starc Dismissal Sparks Debate

A fresh third-umpire controversy erupted on Boxing Day when Brydon Carse dismissed Mitchell Starc amid no-ball confusion.

With Australia struggling at 142/7, Starc lofted a catch to Ben Stokes, and replays appeared to show Carse’s front foot landing beyond the popping crease. However, third umpire Ahsan Raza ruled part of the foot grounded behind the line at first contact, clearing the dismissal. The decision sparked backlash, with Mark Waugh and Kerry O’Keeffe insisting it looked like a no-ball. Australia then collapsed, losing their last three wickets in four balls to be bowled out for 152, in front of a massive 93,000-plus MCG crowd.
