England secured a convincing 115-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Fast bowler Gus Atkinson starred with figures of 5-30, continuing his remarkable record at Lord’s. However, Ollie Robinson was named Player of the Match after claiming seven wickets in the game, including a Test-best 5-39 in New Zealand’s first innings. Chasing 254, New Zealand were bowled out for 138 before lunch on Day 4 despite resistance from Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips.
Debutant Emilio Gay also impressed with a crucial second-innings fifty as England completed a dominant all-round performance.
