The inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) mega auction delivered high drama in New Delhi on Thursday as World Cup-winning Indian stars attracted big bids.

Deepti Sharma became the evening’s most expensive buy after UP Warriorz reclaimed her for INR 3.2 crore using the Right to Match card, making her the joint second-costliest player in WPL history. Delhi Capitals invested INR 1.3 crore in N Sree Charani, signed Sneh Rana (INR 50 lakh) and South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt (INR 1.1 crore).

UP Warriorz made major splashes signing veteran pacer Shikha Pandey (INR 2.4 crore) and Australia batter Phoebe Litchfield (INR 1.2 crore). Gujarat Giants brought back Kashvee Gautam (INR 65 lakh) and secured NZ’s Sophie Devine (INR 2 crore), also adding Renuka Singh, Georgia Wareham and Titas Sadhu.

Mumbai Indians retained Amelia Kerr for INR 3 crore for overseas continuity, while a key shock saw Australia skipper Alyssa Healy go unsold. Spin depth stayed in demand with Asha Sobhana joining UPW for INR 1.1 crore.
