Vinesh Phogat
Olympian Vinesh Phogat cleared a crucial hurdle ahead of the Asian Games selection trials by successfully completing the weigh-in in the women’s 53kg category at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) confirmed that all eligible wrestlers, including Vinesh, fulfilled the required formalities and were cleared to participate in the trials.
Earlier, the Supreme Court refused to stay a Delhi High Court order permitting her participation. Despite WFI’s stance that she should compete in the 50kg division, Vinesh completed the 53kg weigh-in and became eligible for the trials. The 31-year-old wrestler is targeting a comeback and has set her sights on the LA 2028 Olympics.
