Uruguay Hold Saudi Arabia to 1-1 Draw in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H Clash
Uruguay and Saudi Arabia played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H opener at Miami Stadium.
Saudi Arabia took the lead in the first half when Abdulelah Al Amri reacted quickest to convert a rebound following a dangerous set-piece. Uruguay dominated possession and created several opportunities, with Federico Vinas, Manuel Ugarte and Federico Valverde all going close. Their persistence finally paid off late in the match when Maxi Araujo found the equaliser to rescue a valuable point.
Veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera also made history by becoming Uruguay’s oldest-ever World Cup player at 39 years and 364 days. The result leaves Group H wide open, with all four teams level after the opening round.
