Australia seized control on day three of the fifth and final Ashes Test as Travis Head’s swashbuckling 163 and an unbeaten 129 from Steve Smith powered the hosts to a 134-run lead over England at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Head struck his third century of the series, reaching three figures off just 105 balls, before falling to part-time spinner Jacob Bethell. Smith notched his 37th Test hundred, his 13th in Ashes cricket, as Australia finished on 518-7 in reply to England’s 384. Australia, already retaining the Ashes, lead the series 3-1.
