Svitolina Stuns Gauff to Reach Australian Open Semifinal
Elina Svitolina scripted the biggest upset of the Australian Open by demolishing third seed Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-2 in just 59 minutes on Tuesday.
The world No.12 was flawless from the baseline, capitalising on Gauff’s serving woes and unforced errors to storm into her first Australian Open semifinal and fourth overall. Svitolina broke serve five times and never dropped intensity, extending her winning streak to 10 matches.
Fresh from an Auckland title, the 31-year-old is set to return to the WTA Top 10. She next faces top seed Aryna Sabalenka.
