India’s top-ranked player Sumit Nagal advanced to the second round of the Delhi Open 2026 with a straight-sets win over Spain’s David Jorda Sanchis at the DLTA Complex.
Nagal, ranked 297, secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory in one hour and 27 minutes, marking his first win in Delhi. However, the tournament witnessed a major upset as Kazakhstan’s Beibit Zhukayev stunned top seed Dane Sweeny in three sets.
Other seeds progressing included Rei Sakamoto and Jay Clarke. Nagal remains India’s only singles hope after early exits for other local players in the ATP Challenger 75 event, which concludes on February 22.
