Spain Draw 1-1 with Iraq in FIFA World Cup 2026 Warm-Up Match
Spain’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued with a 1-1 draw against Iraq in a friendly match at Riazor Stadium in La Coruna.
Coach Luis de la Fuente fielded a much-changed lineup, handing debuts to Marc Bernal and Jon Martin while resting several key players. Ferran Torres gave Spain the lead in the 16th minute after latching onto a clever pass from Aymeric Laporte. Iraq responded in the 27th minute when Merchas Doski curled in an impressive equaliser. Despite dominating possession, Spain struggled to break down Iraq’s disciplined defence after the break.
The result highlighted areas for improvement before Spain’s final warm-up against Peru, ahead of their FIFA World Cup opener against Cape Verde on June 15.
