Spain Cruise Past Austria to Reach FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16
Spain booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Austria, thanks to a brace from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro’s first international goal.
Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute after a pinpoint assist from Marc Cucurella before Porro doubled the lead with a header from Alex Baena’s cross. Oyarzabal completed the scoring late in the match, finishing another Cucurella delivery to seal Spain’s first World Cup knockout victory since lifting the trophy in 2010.
Spain will now face the winner of Portugal vs Croatia, while goalkeeper Unai Simon set a new World Cup clean-sheet record.
