Shreyas Iyer’s maiden IPL ton keeps Punjab Kings’ playoff hopes alive
Shreyas Iyer admitted Punjab Kings’ narrow defeat against Mumbai Indians was a “tough pill to swallow” after PBKS failed to defend 200 in their IPL 2026 clash at Dharamshala.
Punjab appeared in control after scoring 200/8, thanks to Prabhsimran Singh’s 57 and a late blitz from Azmatullah Omarzai, who smashed 38 off 17 balls. However, Tilak Varma anchored Mumbai’s chase with an unbeaten 75 to seal victory with one ball remaining.
Iyer praised Tilak’s composure and shot selection under pressure while also lauding Omarzai for transforming Punjab’s innings after they looked set for a below-par total.
