Shreyas Iyer Calls Maiden T20I Century a ‘Dream Come True’ After India’s Big Win

India captain Shreyas Iyer described his maiden T20I century as a “dream come true” after leading India to an emphatic eight-wicket win over West Indies in the first T20I in Lucknow.

Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off just 43 balls as India chased 172 in 14.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. His century came off 42 balls, making it the second-fastest T20I hundred against West Indies.

Reflecting on his performance, Iyer said the achievement felt special but stressed that the team’s comprehensive performance mattered more. He also praised India’s mindset after a hectic week that included a three-match ODI series and significant travel.

“Bowling first helped us a lot. We just didn’t look at jet lag as an excuse,” Iyer said, emphasising the importance of sticking to the team’s process.

The India skipper also praised T20I debutant Naman Dhir, who impressed with 3/31 from four overs. Iyer particularly liked Dhir’s willingness to take responsibility during crucial phases.
