Shai Hope Says West Indies Ready to Embrace India Challenge
Captain Shai Hope produced a stunning unbeaten 162 as West Indies chased down India’s 352-run target to win the third ODI by five wickets at the New PCA Stadium on Saturday. Hope, who had kept wickets for 50 overs in the heat before opening the innings, batted through the chase despite a niggle.
India posted 351/7, with KL Rahul scoring an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls, while Rohit Sharma made 92 and Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 57. Hope then took control of the chase, smashing 17 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 113.29. Amir Jangoo scored 67 and Keemo Paul added 44.
Hope’s 21st ODI century helped West Indies record their highest successful ODI chase and their first ODI win over India since 2023. India, however, won the three-match series 2-1. The match also witnessed nine dropped catches, equalling an ODI record.
