Freiburg Beat Hertha on Penalties to Reach German Cup Semifinals
SC Freiburg booked a place in the German Cup semifinals after edging Hertha BSC 6-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Freiburg struck first in extra time through Yuito Suzuki, who capitalised on a defensive error to score in the 96th minute. Hertha hit back eight minutes later as Fabian Reese fired home a powerful equaliser. The tie was decided in a tense shootout, where Freiburg goalkeeper Florian Muller emerged as the hero, saving crucial penalties to seal victory.
Muller later praised his team’s composure under pressure after an exhausting cup contest.
