Paraguay Stun Germany on Penalties to Reach FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16

Paraguay knocked four-time champions Germany out of the FIFA World Cup 2026 with a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout victory after the Round of 32 clash ended 1-1 at Boston Stadium.

Julio Enciso gave Paraguay the lead before Kai Havertz equalised for Germany with a well-taken header. A Jonathan Tah goal was later ruled out, sending the contest to penalties. Paraguay goalkeeper Gill starred by saving two spot-kicks, while Manuel Neuer kept Germany alive with crucial saves during the shootout. However, Jose Canale calmly converted Paraguay’s decisive penalty to seal a famous victory.

The result ended Germany’s perfect World Cup penalty shootout record and sent Paraguay into the Round of 16 after one of the tournament’s most thrilling knockout encounters.
