Rain-Hit Day 1: New Zealand Struggle to 231/9 After West Indies Spark Collapse

New Zealand reached 231/9 at stumps on a rain-shortened opening day of the first Test against the West Indies.

After Kane Williamson’s 52 lifted the hosts to 94/1, Justin Greaves triggered a dramatic collapse, removing Williamson and Tom Latham to reduce New Zealand to 148/6. Michael Bracewell (47) and Nathan Smith (23) built a crucial 52-run stand, but both fell before the close. Zak Foulkes and Jacob Duffy ended the day on four each when bad light stopped play after 70 overs.

Debutant Ojay Shields impressed with 2/34, while Greaves (2/35) and Kemar Roach (2/47) kept West Indies on top.
