Mexico Midfielder Marcel Ruiz Ruled Out of 2026 World Cup with ACL Injury
Marcel Ruiz has been ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee while playing for Toluca in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
The 25-year-old midfielder was substituted in the first half against San Diego FC and will undergo surgery soon. Ruiz had been a key player under Mexico coach Javier Aguirre, starting all three matches for the national side in 2026.
The setback follows another major injury to goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón. Mexico, co-hosting the tournament, will begin its campaign at Estadio Azteca on June 11.
