Jannik Sinner Reaches Fifth Straight Wimbledon Quarter-final With Easy Win
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his impressive Wimbledon title defence with a commanding 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3 victory over Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki to reach his fifth consecutive quarter-final at the All England Club.
The defending champion became just the 11th man in the Open Era to achieve five straight Wimbledon quarter-finals and the only active player besides Novak Djokovic to do so. Mochizuki challenged Sinner in a closely fought second set, but the Italian dominated the tie-break before comfortably sealing the match in straight sets. Sinner praised his opponent’s remarkable run from qualifying and admitted it was their first meeting.
The Italian now moves one step closer to successfully defending his Wimbledon crown.
