India Women Beat Uruguay 4-0 in FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers Opener
India’s women’s hockey team began their FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Uruguay at the Gachibowli Sports Complex in Hyderabad.
Sunelita Toppo opened the scoring in the 21st minute after converting a rebound from a penalty corner. India continued to dominate possession and doubled the lead in the 40th minute when Ishika finished a fine attacking move. Lalremsiami extended the advantage in the 49th minute before Rutuja Dadaso Pisal sealed the emphatic win with a late goal in the 58th minute. India controlled the game throughout with solid defence and attacking pressure.
The hosts will next face Scotland in their second match of the qualifiers.
