India’s decision to enforce the follow-on came under pressure as Sri Lanka mounted a strong fightback on Day Four of the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo.

After being bowled out for 290, Sri Lanka were asked to bat again and reached 227/6 before rain ended play early, leaving them 16 runs ahead with four wickets remaining. Pasindu Sooriyabandara narrowly missed a second century, scoring 92, while Kamindu Mendis made 55 as the pair added 115 for the third wicket. India struck back late through Manav Suthar, Prasidh Krishna and Saransh Jain, but Sri Lanka’s lower order held firm.

India’s spinners also conceded 10 no-balls. With more rain forecast for the final day, the weather could determine the outcome.
