Carlos Alcaraz qualifies for ATP Finals semifinals
World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz produced a composed performance to defeat teenage sensation Joao Fonseca 6-4, 6-4 in their first ATP meeting at the Miami Open. Despite strong support for the 19-year-old Brazilian, Alcaraz relied on his experience and consistency to control key moments, saving all three break points he faced.
The Spaniard dominated on serve and used his speed and defence effectively, keeping Fonseca under pressure throughout. Fonseca, who recently lost to Jannik Sinner at Indian Wells, showed promise but lacked finishing touch.
Alcaraz improved his season record to 17-1 and will next face Sebastian Korda in the third round.
