Ben Stokes Reportedly Weighing England Captaincy Future Amid Nightclub Probe
England captain Ben Stokes has rejected claims of a rift with head coach Brendon McCullum after their disappointing Ashes campaign. Stokes insisted reports of misalignment were “massively overstated”, while acknowledging their working dynamic may evolve this season.
The duo, who have led England since 2022, faced scrutiny following a 4-1 Ashes loss, where Stokes leaned towards a disciplined approach while McCullum backed aggressive ‘Bazball’ cricket. Despite differences, Stokes emphasised their shared goal of building a winning team.
England will return to Test action against New Zealand in June, with Stokes expected to lead at Lord’s as they begin preparations for the 2027 Ashes.
