Bangladesh Women Start T20 World Cup 2026 with Six-Wicket Win Over Netherlands

Bangladesh Women opened their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing six-wicket victory over the Netherlands at Edgbaston.

Chasing 140, opener Juairiya Ferdous starred with a brilliant 50 off 33 balls, setting the platform for the successful chase. After Bangladesh slipped to 85/4, Sharmin Akhter (37) and Shorna Akter (18) shared an unbeaten 56-run stand to guide the team home in 19.1 overs. Earlier, Netherlands posted 139/8, thanks largely to captain Babette de Leede’s composed half-century. Bangladesh’s bowlers kept the scoring under control, with Marufa Akter claiming two wickets.

The win gives Bangladesh an ideal start to their World Cup journey and valuable momentum heading into their upcoming group-stage matches.
