Austria Defeat Jordan 3-1 in FIFA World Cup 2026 Return
Austria celebrated their return to the FIFA World Cup after 28 years with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over tournament debutants Jordan.
Romano Schmid opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a superb strike from the edge of the box. Jordan responded early in the second half through Ali Olwan, who became the first Jordanian player to score at a FIFA World Cup. Austria regained control when a defensive error led to an own goal by Yazan Al Arab.
Veteran striker Marko Arnautović sealed the win with a stoppage-time penalty as Austria secured three valuable points in their Group J opener.
