Australia Beat South Africa by 65 Runs in Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Opener

Six-time champions Australia began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in dominant fashion with a comprehensive 65-run victory over South Africa at Emirates Old Trafford.

Phoebe Litchfield starred with a blistering 51 off just 24 balls, while Ellyse Perry contributed a valuable 36 to help Australia post 172/8 in 20 overs. In reply, South Africa struggled against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 107 in 16.4 overs. Captain Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 44, but lacked support from the rest of the batting line-up.

Georgia Wareham led the charge with outstanding figures of 3/13, while Sophie Molineux and Alana King claimed two wickets each as Australia secured a perfect start.
