Argentina Beat Egypt 3-2
Defending champions Argentina produced a sensational comeback to defeat Egypt 3-2 and book their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals in Atlanta.
Egypt stunned Argentina by taking a 2-0 lead through Yasser Ibrahim and Mostafa Zico, while goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir also saved a Lionel Messi penalty. However, Argentina responded brilliantly in the closing stages. Messi set up Cristian Romero to reduce the deficit before scoring a superb equaliser four minutes later. Enzo Fernández then completed the dramatic turnaround with a stoppage-time winner to seal one of the most memorable victories of the tournament.
The thrilling comeback keeps Argentina’s title defence alive as Lionel Messi once again delivered on the biggest stage.
