Amanda Anisimova Overcomes Rust to Cruise Into French Open Second Round

Amanda Anisimova made a strong return from injury with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah in the opening round of the French Open on Monday.

Playing her first match in eight weeks after recovering from a wrist injury, the American initially looked rusty and dropped serve twice early in the first set. However, the 23-year-old soon found her rhythm and dominated the contest by winning 11 of the final 12 games. Anisimova struck 24 winners and showcased the aggressive baseline game that once took her to the Roland Garros semifinals in 2019.

The victory marked her 15th career win at the French Open as she advanced confidently into the second round in Paris.
