Sri Lanka Beat England by 16 Runs to Level ODI Series
Kusal Mendis smashed a superb 121 and Dunith Wellalage took three wickets as Sri Lanka defeated England by 16 runs in a thrilling second ODI at Headingley on Thursday. The victory levelled the three-match series 1-1, setting up a decider at The Oval on Sunday.
Sri Lanka posted 321/6 after winning the toss, with Mendis producing his seventh ODI century. He shared a crucial 137-run partnership with Kamindu Mendis, who scored 54. Mendis reached his hundred from 82 balls, hitting 12 fours and three sixes.
England made a flying start in the chase as Tom Banton and Ben Duckett added 143 for the opening wicket. Banton scored 73 and Duckett made 67 before Wellalage changed the contest, dismissing both openers and captain Harry Brook.
