Egypt secured a historic 3-1 comeback victory over New Zealand in Group G of the FIFA World Cup 2026, registering their first-ever World Cup win since debuting in the tournament 92 years ago.
New Zealand took an early lead through Finn Surman, but Egypt responded strongly in the second half. Captain Mohamed Salah scored the decisive goal, becoming the first Egyptian player to score in two different World Cup editions and the oldest Egyptian goalscorer at the tournament. Egypt completed the turnaround with a late strike from Trezeguet.
The win puts Egypt in a strong position atop Group G heading into the final round of matches.
