Cabo Verde Hold Uruguay 2-2 to Continue Dream FIFA World Cup Run

Tournament debutants Cabo Verde continued their impressive FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign by holding former champions Uruguay to a thrilling 2-2 draw in Miami.

Cabo Verde stunned Uruguay early when Kevin Pina scored a spectacular long-range free-kick. Uruguay responded before halftime through Ronald Araujo and Agustin Canobbio to take a 2-1 lead. However, substitute Varela capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Fernando Muslera to level the score in the second half.

The result marked another impressive draw for Cabo Verde after previously holding Spain, keeping their knockout hopes alive.
